Unfortunately, the very first lesson when we started planning the thrillers Poppy was extremely ill. As a group of three we had to come up with a general idea, of what our thriller was going to be about considering that we had to prepare for a pitch within the next upcoming lesson. At this point Nathan had a great idea of taking the movie into a crime/action thriller, inspired by the opening of 'the shinning' and an xbox game 'GTA4' introduction.
We came up with tables asking different question asking ourselves questions that would help with the development of the pitch and get our ideas flowing. Here are some examples:
WHAT OPENINGS HAVE INSPIRED YOU?
Grand Theft Auto 4
Harry Brown
Music video by the beastie boys called sabotage
SE7EN
WHAT TYPE OF OPENING STRUCTURE WILL BE FOLLOWED?
Either a Narrative Opening like 'The Shinning'
Or a Discrete title sequence like 'SE7EN' and 'Arlington Road'
WHICH THRILLER SUB-GENRES ARE WE MOST INTERESTED IN?
Crime/Action
Psychological
Super-natural
POSSIBLE FONTS TO BE USED...
If going with a crime/action scene possibly serif, bold.
POSSIBLE LOCATIONS...
Canary Wharf
Generally Central London
Alexandra Palace for an establishing shot
Road signs that indicate us going towards Canary Wharf
INTERTEXTUAL REFERENCES?
Suits - like in reservoir dogs
Close-up of spinning wheel
Quick shots like in SE7EN
THE KEY PROPS TO BE USED:
Suits
Glasses
Van
Tie
Possibly need mask.
We started working on a story board for this idea, however later on having thought about it, and after discussing it with Poppy to make sure we have everybody's approval to proceed with the idea, we decided that we were more inspired by SE7EN than GTA4 therefore we decided to change our plans and try to thing of a new basic idea, that will have flexibility and allow each member of the group to get a say, and pitch in ideas for different shots. The next lesson when planning our pitch, we called Poppy so that the whole group could communicate and give ideas so that we could come up with a final plot to create the pitch and a new story board.
