Conventions of suspense

• The audience know more than the characters on screen (dramatic irony)
•  False Plateau - lulls audience into a false sense of security
• A physical effect on the viewer (visceral effect)
• Begins with a sense of normality then let the sinister element enter
• Typically - Victim, heavy breathing, darkness, pauses, tense music.
