INCEPTION

I recently watched the 'block buster' film INCEPTION- now I don't usually download films on iTune's, but if I'm honest, I couldn't be bothered to spend the extra £4.00 on a film that I hadn't seen and had heard two opinions on what they thought of the film.
Personally, thought it was clever, intense and filled with action and thrills.
There was action, suspense and it kept you thinking all the way through.
The idea itself was really mind boggling and psychological, there are dreams in dreams and states that you cannot return etc.
The film is definitely one of those films that you would have to watch more than once as well as the director seems to want the audience to have their own opinion and choice of the ending of the film.
Heres the trailer, I recommend this film as it is definately one of those thrillers that you cannot miss.

Jaws Trailer

We were told to publish this trailer as an example as a trailer filled with suspense. :-D
Enjoy!

Suspense!

In class today, we dicussed how suspense is created within making a film. What we noticed is the visual effects and the editing of the film can create a visceral effect to the audience when watching it, using media techniques/technology such as;
Mise en scene, the lighting, props, all get the audience recognising the scenery and what sort of situation the film is trying to portray.
Sound, Digetic and non digetic sounds such as intense music etc.
And 'dramatic irony'- when the audience know something that the characters in the film do not know about, which creates an intense and on the edge feeling for the viewers.

Conventions of suspense
  • The audience know more than the characters on screen (dramatic irony)
  •  False Plateau - lulls audience into a false sense of security
  • A physical effect on the viewer (visceral effect)
  • Begins with a sense of normality then let the sinister element enter
  • Typically - Victim, heavy breathing, darkness, pauses, tense music.
